Small business advocates lobby for immunity from coronavirus lawsuits

With the uncertainty around reopening businesses as well as the restrictions and regulations that go along with it, business owners are looking to protect themselves from the potential for ‘frivolous’ lawsuits.

Customers could make claims that a place of business was responsible for spreading the coronavirus. And even if a claim is unfounded, the cost that a business faces to defend itself in court could be enough to shut its doors permanently – especially given the state of the economy.

The National Federation of Independent Business is one of the organizations that’s working to get legislation passed which would protect small business owners from the economic toll that comes with lawfully defending themselves.
